Buy a Brick and Other Donations
Donations made to Mote Marine Laboratory and Mote Aquarium provide support for vital scientific research projects and public educational programs and help us communicate our findings with the public. Donations are tax deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law. Here are a few unique ways to help:
Buy a Brick
Honor a friend. Celebrate a special event. Remember someone you love. Engrave the name you choose in Mote's history by purchasing a
commemorative brick. These bricks help fund exhibits, marine research
projects, education programs and important
capital improvements.
Commemorative bricks are available for placement in Mote Aquarium's
courtyard and walkways, in the public pathways at the entrances to the
Aquarium and Laboratory buildings and now at the Ann & Alfred
Goldstein Marine Mammal Research and Rehabilitation Center. You may choose your location and a special message.**

Mote bricks are $125 apiece, with special rates for three or more bricks ($320/three bricks; $500/five).

**There is a limit of three lines of
inscription per brick with a maximum of 13 characters per line,
including spacing and punctuation.
Donate your boat or vehicle
Help us help our seas by donating your boat, car, truck or recreational vehicle to Mote Marine Laboratory. Your tax-deductible donation will help support our ongoing research programs. Donate to the Women's Exchange
If you live in Sarasota and have items that you are thinking of donating to charity, please consider taking them to the Women's Exchange. Mote Marine Laboratory has an account at the Women's Exchange, Inc., a nonprofit consignment shop that accepts clothing, furniture, household items, jewelry, books and tools that are in excellent (that is, clean and saleable) condition. Another way to help? Buy Mote-designated items, of course!
Making a Donation
Individuals can take up to 20 items per visit to the Exchange and Mote will benefit from the donation. Goods taken to the exchange should be marked with Mote’s account number on a 1-inch-by-4-inch piece of masking tape.
Mote will receive 65% of the selling price of items designated with our account number. Mote’s Account Number is 59281.
Consignment schedule:
- Furniture: Scheduled by appointment only; call 955-7859, ext. 401, to schedule an appointment for furniture donations.
- Clothing: May be donated on the first Monday, Wednesday and Friday of each month from 8:30 – 11 a.m.
- Household items, etc.: Monday, Wednesday and Friday during the first three weeks of each month from 8:30 – 11 a.m.
- Fine Jewelry: Scheduled by appointment only; call 955-7859, ext. 301, to schedule an appointment to donate fine jewelry.
The Woman’s Exchange will provide tax receipts upon
request. Before taking your items to the Exchange, please call their
message line at 941.955.7873 for a recorded message regarding items
not being accepted that day.
