Watch It! Mote Giving Challenge Video Part 1
Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium has created a special series of videos to highlight the power of giving for our upcoming participation in the 36-Hour Giving Challenge — an online fundraising marathon for nonprofit organizations in Sarasota, Manatee and Charlotte counties that begins at 7 a.m. Tuesday, March 5 and ends at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 6.clientuploads/GivingChallenge2013/fs_373.png

The videos feature none other than our own Mote Mascots, Gilly the Shark and Shelley the Sea Turtle. The first video is now posted at our YouTube Channel: youtube.com/motemarine. Subsequent videos will be posted on Friday and Monday.

Enjoy! (And don't forget to share with family and friends!)

About the Giving Challenge and Mote:
This is the second year of the Giving Challenge, which brought together more than 100 community nonprofit organizations and raised more than $2.4 million for Sarasota-area nonprofits in 2012.

Organizers have made $430,000 available for 1:1 matching support for new and increased donations over last year. This year, we’re excited to announce that two anonymous Mote donors have agreed to provide an additional $50,000 to be used for a 1:1 internal match for gifts made to Mote!

Here’s how the Giving Challenge works:
  • Donations must be made online between 7 a.m. Tuesday, March 5, and 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, at www.givingpartnerchallenge.org. (Challenge matched funds may run out, so earlier is better!)
  • A debit or credit card must be used.
  • Gifts from new donors will be matched by the Challenge and internally up to $1,000.
  • Gifts from repeat donors will be matched by the Challenge up to $1,000 over and above last year’s gift amount, and will be 100 percent matched internally up to $1,000.
  • Donations are 100 percent tax deductible.
Mote has teamed up with Whole Foods Market in Sarasota, which is helping the Lab raise awareness and make the most of the Giving Challenge through the Best NonProfit/For Profit Business Partnership Grant Opportunity. Mote also offers a special thank you to The Ritz-Carlton Beach Club, which served as a film location.

The Giving Challenge is presented by the Community Foundation of Sarasota County in partnership with The Patterson Foundation, with support from Gulf Coast Community Foundation, Manatee Community Foundation, Charlotte Community Foundation and the William G. and Marie Selby Foundation. The Herald-Tribune Media Group, ClearChannel Radio and SNN6 have also joined in the effort to promote the power of giving during this event.
