Bombora and Cooranbong Vodkas Partner with Mote to Restore and Protect Coral Reefs

Published Friday, October 19, 2012

G’Day Imports, LLC, importers of Bombora and CooranBong Australian vodkas, is partnering with Mote Marine Laboratory and the “Protect Our Reefs” program, and will donate a portion of proceeds from the sale of its vodkas in the Florida to Mote to help preserve and protect our oceans.

G’Day selected Mote Marine Laboratory as the beneficiary of its donation because of Mote’s worldwide recognition as a leader in world-class research relevant to global marine conservation and sustainable use of healthy ocean habitats and natural resources. G’Day has pledged to donate 50 cents of every Bombora bottle and $1 of every Cooranbong bottle sold in Florida between Oct. 1-Dec. 31, 2012, to Mote to fund ongoing research, protection and restoration of coral reefs and our oceans.
Mote scientists replant corals on Florida's reef tract. The corals are nurtured in Mote's nursery and then replanted to help restore the reef.

G’Day’s interest and passion for our oceans and their incredible importance to our worldwide ecosystems stems from the fact that Bombora and CooranBong are Australian vodkas whose names mean “reef” and “water over rocks” in native Aboriginal tongue. Bombora is distilled five times, and Cooranbong is distilled 10 times, from premium grapes grown in the famed Barossa Valley wine region in Australia. Bombora is all about sun, surf and fun, and partners with Billabong and pro surfer Keala Kennelly on many projects and events. CooranBong is all about casual elegance, much like the beautiful country and surrounding oceans that call Australia home. Both vodkas have international acclaim as very smooth vodkas, and both are gluten-free.

G’Day’s CEO, David Freyder, is excited about the partnership with Mote because the ocean is, and has always been, a big passion for him. “I’ve been diving on the Great Barrier Reef, the Cayman Islands and all along the reef in Florida,” he said. “I’ve seen firsthand how important it is for us to protect our oceans and reefs. We began looking for a partner to help us with our cause, and when we found Mote Marine Laboratory and saw the great advances it is making … we knew it was the right partner for us. We are starting this program in the state of Florida and hope to expand as we grow worldwide.”

Started in 1955, Mote Marine Laboratory is an independent, nonprofit marine research organization that focuses on the science of the sea and all creatures that inhabit our oceans. Mote is a world-renowned authority in shark research, coral reef restoration, marine mammals, sea turtles, fisheries enhancement, ocean toxicology and coastal ecology. Based in Florida, Mote is making important advances in protecting and restoring our precious ocean ecosystems that support our planet and everyday lives.

Jason Wolf, Florida Keys development officer and marketing director for the Protect Our Reefs program at Mote, said he was excited to partner with G’Day. “We couldn’t be more thrilled to partner with Bombora and CooranBong vodkas and honored that G’Day selected Mote as the recipient of its generous donation. G’Day’s passion for the conservation of our oceans and dedication to a bright future of our marine resources is amazing.”

Since Bombora and CooranBong vodkas launched a few years ago, they have gained international fame and won medals at the San Francisco International Spirits competition and the International Wine and Spirits competition in London as well as the New York World Wine & Spirits Competition.

Both vodkas have received outstanding ratings by Anthony Dias Blue of Blues Review and The Tasting Panel Magazine. “When people hear about our vodkas and try them, the overwhelming response is how smooth they are when compared to others,” Freyder said.

Bombora is now carried in the following states: Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Tennessee, Texas and Washington, with more states to be added soon.
