Program Descriptions

Classroom Program: Manatees Make Sense

While learning all about manatee senses, students will discover what research Mote Marine Laboratory scientists are conducting to learn about and help protect this endangered species.


50 minutes15-30 students/class1 chaperone free : 5 students ratio $12/student

Classroom Program: Rescue, Rehab, and Release

Learn how Mote's Dolphin and Whale Hospital and Sea Turtle Rehabilitation Center care for sick, injured, and orphaned animals through interactive lessons and group activities.

Classroom Program: Shark Secrets

Discover why sharks are important to the health of the ocean, and how their survival is threatened by human activities.

Laboratory Program: Spineless Sea

Dissect a squid and learn about taxonomic classification in our hands-on marine invertebrate lab.

75 minutes15-30 students/class1 chaperone free : 5 students ratio$14/student

Laboratory Program: True Life Dolphin Mysteries

Students will get hands-on experience, classifying and articulating bones by working together in groups. Through this process, participants will uncover the true life of a Sarasota Bay dolphin.

Field Program: Field Sampling Techniques Find out what to wear and bring

Discover what lives in the seagrass beds and sand flats of Sarasota Bay as we collect marine animals with dip nets, seine nets, and core samplers.        

90 minutes  15-30 students/class1 chaperone free : 5 students ratio$17/student

Field Program: Snorkeling Workshop Find out what to wear and bring

Learn the basics of snorkeling while exploring the coastal waters of Sarasota Bay. Bring your own mask, fins, and snorkel and be ready to get wet!

Auditorium Program: Myths and Misconceptions in Science

Join us as we explore the process of science, debunk some common misconceptions and learn about Mote Marine Laboratory’s current reserach projects during this exciting auditorium program.  Only offered during 9am and 10am time slots.

50 minutes • 200 students/class • 1 chaperone free : 5 students ratio • $12/student

SeaSnooze Overnight Program: Close-Up on Mote Research

Explore the Aquarium when the lights go out. Through games, role plays, and exhibit visits we will learn how Mote scientists unlock the mysteries of the ocean.  

Fridays or Saturdays 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 a.m.15-50 students1 chaperone free : 5 students ratio
