The Directorate of Marine Biology and Conservation fosters integrative and cross-disciplinary research on the biology of marine, estuarine, freshwater and related terrestrial organisms, from molecular to ecosystem levels. Studies directed at increasing basic knowledge in diverse aspects of marine biology as well as applied research for environmental and conservation needs are conducted. Genomics, microbiology, physiology, behavior, ecology and conservation biology of marine organisms all fall within the scope of our scientists. The directorate is dedicated particularly to research on taxa at risk including marine mammals, sea turtles, sharks and rays, corals and other species of concern.
