The Directorate of Fisheries & Aquaculture fosters diverse aspects of applied and basic research on contemporary and emerging issues in fisheries management, marine aquaculture development and population restoration. This research is increasing knowledge of how to manage, preserve, enhance and restore coastal fish and invertebrate populations and meet seafood needs in the U.S. Studies range from basic and applied research on fisheries habitat ecology, marine fisheries enhancement, population dynamics and coral reef restoration to development of sustainable marine aquaculture system and husbandry technologies.

About Us

Mote Marine Laboratory has been a leader in marine research since it was founded in 1955. Today, we incorporate public outreach as a key part of our mission. Mote is an independent nonprofit organization and has seven centers for marine research, the public Mote Aquarium and an Education Division specializing in public programs for all ages.
