Coral Reef Ecosystem Research Internship

This program focuses on coral reef ecology, specifically the impact of diseases on coral reef assemblages. Coral disease is one of the greatest threats to reefs around the world. Research often involves the use of spatial epidemiology - the study of where and when disease outbreaks occur - to further understand the environmental and ecological parameters that may influence coral-disease activity. Interns will be split their time between analyzing photographs and data on the computer and conducting assays within the lab. Interns will become familiar with command-driven computer programs such as R, and develop basic biological statistics skills. Laboratory assays will include DNA extractions, PCR, DGGE, and antibiotic assays.

Hours are Monday – Friday 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. with occasional long hours and weekends.
