Aquarium and Animal Care:

Aquarium Husbandry Internship

Aquarium Husbandry interns will assist in all aspects of maintaining aquarium displays for fish and invertebrate collections (Aquarium interns do NOT work with sea turtles or marine mammals). Daily duties include exhibit cleaning, food preparation and feeding, performing water quality tests, filter changing and cleaning, and record keeping. Applicants should have an interest in aquarium fish husbandry and be able to handle strenuous or monotonous tasks. This internship has the potential to focus closely in on fish health and quarantine or other individual aquarium related interests.

The typical work schedule is 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Additional hours and/or weekend hours may be required. Interns work closely with staff, volunteers and other interns. They must also be able to work independently. Applicants should be comfortable taking the initiative on extra projects and not be afraid to help out with medical procedures. Coursework in biology, animal behavior and zoology, and experience or interest in animal enrichment is beneficial.

*NOTE: Although preference is given to applications received by the deadline, the Aquarium Husbandry program will review late applications submitted to their program.
