Dr. Frank Alcock, former director of Mote's Marine Policy Institute, is an Assistant Professor of Political Science at New College of Florida, where he teaches courses on world politics, international law and environmental studies. Dr. Alcock holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from Duke University, an M.A. in International Affairs from George Washington University and a B.A. in Economics from the State University of New York, Binghamton.
His research covers issues of sustainable development, trade and global environmental politics with a focus on oceans and marine policy. In addition to publications dealing with global fisheries problems, Dr. Alcock has co-authored a handful of articles on science-policy relationships in environmental issue areas with an emphasis on marine policies.
From 2000 to 2003, Frank was a Belfer Fellow at the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University. He is also a Research Fellow for the Institutional Dimensions of Global Environmental Change Project and an active member of the human dimensions of global environmental change research community. Before obtaining his Ph.D., Dr. Alcock spent five years as an international policy analyst/economist at the U.S. Department of Energy.
