Mote Marine Laboratory

Ms. Neidig joined Mote Marine Laboratory in February 1986 as a Staff Biologist and was promoted to Senior Biologist in 1988. In this capacity, she is responsible for the supervision of the Fish Stock Enhancement Laboratory. She has been involved in the design and conductance of physiological and dietary experiments with snook (Centropomus undecimalis), and red drum (Sciaenops ocellata). Ms. Neidig also has been responsible for the supervision of MML water quality and biological parameter testing of ponds at the FDNR's Bureau of Marine Research Port Manatee Fish Enhancement Research Facility. She is currently principal investigator for the MML Fish Stock Enhancement Project funded by the state of Florida. She is involved with MML's king mackerel (Scomberamorus cavalla) migration and stock assessment study in the southern Gulf of Mexico. She tags, collected length/frequency and catch per unit effort data, and takes otolith samples for both king and Spanish mackerel (S. maculatus) in the states of Yucatan and Veracruz, Mexico. She has also been involved in the culturing and study of the red tide dinoflagellate, Ptychodiscus brevis. Ms. Neidig's previous experience includes research on the feeding rates of the forage fish species Dorosoma petenense. She conducted research on the growth rates and nutritional requirements of shellfish and crustaceans in closed mariculture systems. She has monitored and recorded data on breeding Antarctic penguins and conducted research on soil borne fungi and microflora associated with diseased annual crops. She has also instructed college laboratories in aquatic biology, microbiology, and biological photography. Ms. Neidig was included on a team of biologists involved in mitigation studies for the Central Arizona Water Project.
