She primarily works with the School Programs Cordinator with school groups and partnership schools that visit Mote along with creating Mommy and Me public programs for 2 to 5 year olds.

Miranda earned her Bachelor's of Science degree from the University of New Hampshire in Marine and Freshwater Biology. As an undergrad Miranda spent a semester abroad where she attended James Cook University in Townsville Australia. Miranda enjoyed her first diving experiences and Open Water certification on the Great Barrier Reef. She also spent some time over a summer doing field work at the Isles of Shoals Marine Laboratory in the Gulf of Maine. After graduating from UNH in May of 2007, Miranda moved to Savannah Georgia where she was an education intern at the University of Georgia's Marine Education Center and Aquarium. While in Savannah, Miranda gained a year of experience teaching people of all ages and backgrounds about marine science and the natural history of coastal Georgia along with the care of marine animals. Once her year internship was completed Miranda recieved an education postion at Mote Marine Laboratory.

Miranda is a member of the Florida Association of Science Teachers (FAST) and has First Aid and CPR certification.

Why Mote?

Miranda fell in love with Sarasota before she even arrived at her interview. Mote Marine Laboratory is the type of institution Miranda hoped to work at even before graduating college. She is excited to work with such a great team of people who all share a similar passion for science and education with such amazing resources at hand. Miranda also volunteers her time at the Goldstien Marine Mammal and Sea Turtle Center as an Animal Care Volunteer.

Why Marine Education?

Miranda fell inlove with the ocean before she was even able to walk thanks to her parents who spent every summer at the beach in Maine. She always had a passion for the environment and animals so it was only natural that marine biology fit her perfectly. Miranda has enjoyed working with children ever since her first jobs working in a day care and also as a summer camp counselor. Marine education gaver her the ability to combine both of these joys. Miranda believes that education is the foundation for change and hopes that her knowledge and shared teaching experiences will inspire someone else the way she was inspired.
