Trish joined Mote as a Lab Technician in the Benthic Ecology Program in 1981. She was involved in field collection and sorting of benthic samples from Tampa Bay, Florida. In 1983, she worked on projects involving field collections and identifications of larval fish samples from Tampa Bay and Crystal River. From 1984 to 1995, Trish worked in the Marine Biomedical Program for Dr. Carl Luer, initially with his shark cartilage research (funded by the National Science Foundation) involving the isolation and characterization of proteins from shark cartilage. Other research involved carcinogenic exposure studies using nurse sharks and clearnose skates as model animals and studies of the immune function in elasmobranch fishes with Dr. Cathy Walsh.  In 1986, Trish was promoted to Staff Biologist. In 1996, Trish joined the Chemical Fate and Effects Program where her responsibilities involve managing the extraction lab, quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC), and running the instrumentation LC/MS(MS) used primarily for identification of red tide toxins and mosquito pesticides.

In 2001, Trish was promoted to Senior Biologist. Having worked in so many areas of research at Mote has given Trish not only vast array of experience and knowledge in various fields of biology and chemistry, but a great appreciation of the time it takes from extraction of samples to the final analysis.
