Turtle upon arrival

6/30 Turtle was pulled out of rough surf by citizens and transported to Mote's Sea Turtle Hospital. Started on antibiotics and fluid therapy. 7/2 Turtle started eating today. 7/10 Turtle eating well and responding to treatment. 11/30 Fisher is eating well but is back on antibiotics due to an ongoing infection. 3/14 Antibiotics have been discontinued and turtle is doing well. Has been moved into larger rehabilitation tank along with Captain Rex for exercise and exposure to direct sunlight. Planning for release in the near future when turtle has regained some dark color to the shell (sea turtles lose some of the pigment in their shells when out of direct sunlight for long periods of time and are actually susceptible to sunburn if not allowed to "tan" gradually). 3/27  Turtle is "tanning" nicely.  Plan to catch for bloodwork in about two weeks, and if all looks good, will release both Rex and Fisher shortly  thereafter.  4/15  Great news — Fisher has been approved for release, and will be headed back to sea tomorrow morning off Lido Beach!!  4/16  Fisher was released successfully off Lido Beach this morning.
