Photo of turtle with fibropapillomas on arrival.

11/11 Turtle was rescued near Sebastian Inlet on the east coast of Florida.  It is covered with fibropapilloma tumors.  The left eye is destroyed by tumor, but the right eye is still intact, but will require surgery to save its sight.  Turtle is very emaciated and lethargic.  It has been started on antibiotics and fluids. 11/12 Turtle has been placed in the water and is able to raise its head, but not much more.  Not showing any interest in food, but white count is very high and turtle is anemic. 11/15 Turtle is receiving Procrit for the anemia and appetite stimulants, but still has not eaten.  It is stronger and able to move around in the water, however. 11/28 Still anemic and not eating, but will undergo surgery tomorrow to remove bulk of the tumors. 12/1 Surgery went very well and all tumors were removed via laser.  Right eye is still intact, but will be a few days before we can evaluate vision from that eye. 12/4 Turtle died late yesterday afternoon.  Necropsy will be performed this afternoon.
