Final Disposition: Released December 28, 2005 from Englewood Beach

Comments/Disposition:

This turtle was found floating in the surf near Boca Grande.  It is somewhat responsive and may be suffering from a combination of problems, including anemia and red tide toxicosis.  It has been started on treatment. 9/29 Turtle is responding fairly well to treatment and has been moved into some shallow water. 10/4 Turtle is now eating very well and is in deeper water.  Doing very well. 10/12 Turtle continues to do very well. 10/25 Anemia is finally responding to treatment.  Appetite is excellent. 11/2 Turtle continues to improve. 11/11 Anemia is almost gone and turtle continues to do very well.  May be ready for release in the near future. 11/18 Continuing to do very well. 12/1 Turtle is almost ready for release. 12/9 Turtle is ready for release, but red tide extends along almost the entire west coast of Florida. 12/16 Continuing to do very well. 12/20 Since red tide has subsided in the area, we have applied for permission to release this turtle later this week. 12/28 Turtle was released this morning off Englewood Beach into the Gulf of Mexico.  It swam away well.
