This turtle was discovered in the surf zone off the south end of Longboat Key.  It was extremely weak and emaciated.  It was covered with algae and barnacles and had typical symptoms of anemic, lethargic loggerheads.  Treatment has been started. 8/8 Turtle seems a little stronger and somewhat more alert this morning. Has been kept out of the water so far, but will try it in shallow water later today. 8/9 Turtle ate a little yesterday afternoon, but then died late in the evening.  Necropsy is pending.
