Species: Loggerhead (Caretta caretta)
Age Class: Subadult

Date Stranded: July 3, 2005
Location of Stranding: Point o' Rocks, Sarasota
Date of Arrival: July 3, 2005
Number of Days of Care: 5 days
Final Disposition: Euthanized on July 7, 2005 due to severe peritonitis

Comments/Disposition:

This turtle was found floating off Point o' Rocks.  It had been struck by a boat.  It was transported to the Sea Turtle Rehabilitation Hospital.  It had a severely damaged front flipper, damaged skull, and damaged plastron.  It was treated for shock, a portion of the front flipper was amputated, and was started on antibiotics and fluids.  Prognosis is guarded, but will observe closely. 7/7 Turtle has developed severe peritonitis from wound penetrating the plastron.  Chance of survival is zero and turtle is to be euthanized.
