Comments/Disposition:

This turtle was found near South Lido Beach, bayside. It is extremely emaciated, anemic, and lethargic. It probably has the same anemia the 8 subadult loggerheads had that were treated this past summer. Turtle has been started on fluids, antibiotics, and treatment for the anemia. 12/30 Turtle ate very well this morning and is more alert. We are optimistic about turtle's chances of survival. 1/5/05 Turtle is slowly gaining strength and appetite is excellent. 1/23 Turtle is definitely improving. Has begun producing red blood cells finally in response to the anemia. Appetite continues to be excellent. 2/6 Anemia is improving quickly and turtle is gaining weight well. 2/15 Turtle continues to improve and gain weight. 3/23 Turtle continues to do very well. May be nearing release soon. 3/31 Turtle is apparently healthy and should be released in the next two weeks. 4/12 We have requested permission to release the turtle later this week. Continuing to do very well. 4/14 Turtle was released with Gilligan on Lido Beach this morning. Both turtles swam away very well.
