Comments/Disposition:
This turtle stranded on Manasota Key. It was covered with barnacles and extremely lethargic. Upon admission to the Sea Turtle Rehabilitation Hospital, turtle was comatose and poorly responsive. Heart rate was extremely low and had to be given medication to increase the heart rate. Turtle was started on antibiotics and fluids. 8/17 Turtle was started on gruel given by stomach tube. Turtle now moves a little, but still poorly responsive. 8/19 Turtle continues to take gruel, but little change. 8/21 No change obvious. 8/23 Turtle is no longer retaining gruel in the stomach. Reflexes are decreased. 8/25 Turtle has continued to deteriorate and has developed severe pneumonia. Turtle was humanely euthanized this morning, as it appeared to have no chance of survival.
