10/13 This turtle was entangled in a landing net and its right front flipper embedded with the mesh. The turtle has paps including a severly affected eye. Also the net has created a deep restriction band on the flipper that may be down to the bone (we have confirumed that its humerus is broken). 10/22 "Dexter" had surgery today and is recovering; we will try not to handle the turtle for weeks to let the bone in his flipper heal. 11/3 Dexter was also started on antibiotics because we are suspicious that it has pneumonia. 12/16 Turtle is eating well and has responded to his antibiotic therapy. 1/22 This turtle had a re-growth of an eye fibropapilloma, had surgery today to remove the new growth. Radiographs indicate compression of the humerus with fragments. No real evidence of infection. 2/9 Dexter had another surgery for a re-growth on his eye. Monitoring this animal closely; third surgery for fibropapillomas. 5/17 New growth seen but able to remove with just using lidocaine to numb the area. Radiographs were taken and the radiograph indicates that the bone is slightly better. 6/17 Will take blood and another radiograph this week and see if this turtle is ready for release. 7/7 Watching eye closely for re-growth of the tumor. 10/22 Considering release, off all medication. 11/15 Another regrowth on eye. Obtained a CT scan to investigate the possibility of internal tumors before doing another surgery to remove eye. Very suspicious area noted, although not concrete. Considering exploratory surgery. 12/2 Exploratory surgery to investigate possible internal growths. Surgery revealed papilloma tumors on lungs. Performed humane euthanasia while the animal was under anesthesia.
