Comments/Disposition:

4/26/2010  Turtle was found rolling around in the surf on Longboat Key this morning.  Turtle is weak and has a wound on the carapace.  Has been placed in shallow water and is breathing strongly, but is not yet interested in food.  5/6  Humpty is swimming well, and has been placed into a full sized rehab tank (rooming with another small green, Mate).  Turtle is eating all food offered now and is being treated with antibiotics for signs of infection.  5/23  Humpty has been doing well — continues to eat everything offered and has started to gain weight.  Signs of infection are resolving and turtle has been taken off antibiotics.  Humpty did show some signs of kidney injury recently and has been placed in low salinity (decreased salt level) water to help with hydration.  These bloodwork values are improving and we will continue to monitor closely.  6/8  Humpty went off his food for several days and has been acting quite stressed.  Antibiotics were changed and turtle seems to be improving — is now eating again and has been doing better in lower water.  Turtle is now separated from Mate to give both a chance to continue healing on their own (sea turtles are not naturally a social species, so whenever possible, we do try to keep them in tanks of their own.) 6/22 Humpty is now eating well and remains in low water.  7/24 Animal is ready for release! 8/2 Turtle was released from Lido Beach today.
