5/27 Through cooperation of Mote's Stranding Investigations Program, Florida's Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission law enforcement officers and the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office, this 265 pound adult male loggerhead was disentangled and recovered after being trapped and entangled offshore in rope that was attached to something 30 feet below on the ocean's bottom. Murph was also entangled in four types of fishing line and the line and rope was tangled around his neck and front flippers and somewhat around his tail. Murph also suffers from an old carapace fracture of an unknown cause that is located near his rear flippers. Due to the enganglement, his front flippers have deep lacerations. Murph is in good physical condition, taking food offered right away. He will be placed on antibiotic treatment. 6/8 Murph is doing well, he is foraging for his food and his wounds are healing nicely. 7/15 Wounds continue to improve. turtle continues to eat well. Hope for release in the next month.
